A friend asked me what this album was like. I said "Well, it's sort of like a simplified Dream Theater without the guitars, played at about half the tempo, with electronic drums, and each song is pretty short. Actually, it's completely nothing like Dream Theater at all. I had high expectations for this album after I really enjoyed the OSI release, which might have been my undoing. The music doesn't really have any guitars, and it sounds like Moore has just layered lots of tracks together using his keyboard. Which is to be expected really, considering that he is a keyboardist. Kev also sings and he's not bad. A little bland perhaps. Which kind of sums up the album. A bit bland. Nothing particularly interesting or up-tempo. I really like fast and enjoyable music and this album doesn't really quite cut it for me. It's not too bad, but it all just sounds a little bit too generic. Slowed down lo-fi drums with samples played over the top - it's all been done before and doesn't really hold my interest. I'm glad that Moore is trying something new and moving onto what he wants to do, but fans of Metal might want to give this one a miss. |
