With a band name like "Flower Kings" you know straight away that you're not going to get thrashing speed metal. I bought this album because the main singer + guitarist, Rione Stolt, plays on the two Transatlantic albums, which I really enjoyed.
This CD is a double album. The first CD is a mini concept album, with one big epic song spanning over 18 tracks (?!). Don't ask me exactly what the concept is here, because reading the lyrics I have no idea. Sounds like a lot of meandering almost-get-to-the-point-but-never-do lyrics. The second CD contains 10 other songs. Certainly enough music for your money here!

So what's it like? Not bad. Not brilliant. Very progressive, lots of notes, lots of melodies, harmonies and ideas. Too many ideas. Wayyyy too many ideas. Apparently Stolt produced this album under a pseudonym, and I think that this might have been to the detriment of this album. With no-one to say "that's great, that's ok, that's crap", Stolt has just decided to include absolutely every musical idea possible.

Unfortunately nothing on this album leaps out and grabs me. It's all pretty good, but that's about it. It all starts sounding the same pretty quickly. There's lots of good music here, but it's all just pretty good.

Check it out if you want something progressive and a bit lighter, you just might really dig it and think it's genius. I don't, but hey, maybe I'm just strange.
