Incubus
Science (1997)

American hard-rock / funk band. Incubus had a hit with the song "Drive" - a reasonably lame rock ballad, which was off the album that came after this one ("Make Yourself"). Incubus have succumbed to stupidity and also have a DJ. Having said that, this album is pretty good. Very chilli peppers, though the bass player is definitely not a Flea. The sounds is pretty heavy, with some good riffs. Actually, some really great heavy riffs. No big massive metal chugging, but some nice big power-chords. Brandon (the guy thinks it's hilarious to credit himself as Cornelius, so I don't know/care what his surname is) vocals fit really well with the music, and normally has a good melody to sing. The DJ thinks it's cool to have scratching sound effects over the top of this CD, but you can usually just ignore that. The guitarist is one of the few who can make a good use out of a ring modulator, not an easy feat. Their next few releases went very commercial, with Incubus being determined to write 3 minute crappy ballad pop songs. A tragedy and a good waste of talent. Check out a few songs on this album, you might dig it. |
