Uhrg. Why was this such a hit? I guess it's because there are some good melodies on a couple of songs, and the band sound different to anything else. Is that fair?

But I don't understand. The songs are pretty boring, the singer Jonathan Davis is very annoying, and there's nothing cool, interesting or good sounding about tuning your guitar down as far as it can go. The whole album seems to have a lot of post-production - effects, electronic sounds, the works. Not that I'm against any of that per se, but there should be at least some point to it all. One other thing that pisses me off is the bass sound. Trebly note-less crap. What the hell was this idiot thinking? Well, at least he is trying something new, I guess, and now we know it doesn't work.

Actually, now that I think about it, I think that Korn were (are?) popular because they were an ok metal band, but didn't look or sound much like late 80's or 90's metal band. There were a whole new generation of teenagers who didn't have a chance to see/hear any metal that identified their generation, and this was the best thing to come along. (Or at least, the music that Sony were pushing/advertising the most).

This is also the very first CD that I have seen in which a band endorses clothes! Normally you expect to see "we play xxx brand guitars and xxx brand amps", but not "we wear Puma, Fubu and Diesel brand clothes!". Hmm, how much easier can you explain "we just want money?".

And in the words of guitarist, Brian "Head" Welch, (who has now left the band): "They're just a bunch of kids getting marketed how these guys in the big corporate firms want to do," Welch said. He's since become a born again Christian. More info can be found on his website:

The CD is interesting. By all means have a listen to it, but I wouldn't recommend it if you are a fan of classic metal.
