Welcome to 2010... and North Korea is in year 99 - (Tuesday, January 12, 2010)
First post for metaltheater.com in 2010!
How exciting!
So what am I going to write about?
My favourite topic - North Korea. Some of you might know a bit about North Korea, but probably not a lot. I want to change that, as I'm starting to realise that it's really the forgotten tragedy of our generation.
If you don't know the first thing about North Korea, the easiest way to describe the place is 1984. If you haven't read the book, here's how I'd describe the place:
* The majority of the population have no food
* People must worship the leader, Kim Jong Il. He lives in his multitude of palaces while the population starves. Think Hitler.
* The country has numerous death camps - approximately 150,000 people ! Unbelievable.
* Communities are kept in isolation, they have no radio's, TV's, internet, phones
* Stricly communist - no business's are allowed to exist.
* Only a few very number of tourists are admitted each year, and they are kept under lock and key 24 hours a day.
Tomorrow I'll introduce you to their new agency. It's unintentionally funny.
Please caption the photo on the right. My attempt: "This way to room 101?"

There's also two quite good documentaries about North Korea, one about the soccer team that made the World Cup called The Game of Their Lives, and another about the huge mass games that are peformed each year called A State of Mind.
Then there's the comic by Guy Delisle called Pyongyang that's reasonable.
Me too a fan of North Korea (and I will be cheering them on when they play in the World Cup later in the year)
That's it for this article - you can either go back to the List of posts page, or perhaps the MetalTheater.com front page.
