Podcasts, geocaches, cultural differences and computer hardware - (Tuesday, April 17, 2007)
Well I'm back!
Over the past week I've been driving around Victoria doing a lot of geocaching - we went from Melbourne, to Ballarat, to Horsham, Halls Gap and then Bendigo! Over the week we:
- Found about 20 caches
- Found a great cidery (Henry of Harcourt)
- Didn't find about 10 more caches
Next week on Anzac day there's a meet up for Bendigo/Victorian geocachers. We're thinking of attending and meeting a couple of the other like-minded geocachers. Might be fun.
There's a couple of good stories about Bendigo. The first one (that's related to the second) is that there's a particular cacher named Romax (Roma and Max), who are the most devious geocacher hiders I've come across. Don't let their profile picture fool you - they're not nice middle aged people. They're cruel and cunning and delight in making you hang around a bridge for a few hours trying to find the damn cache. Bendigo has a reputation for difficult caches and it's thanks to these guys, who set the standard. We came across an area that was basically a blank field. There were about 10 rocks in the middle of the field. The cache couldn't be anywhere else. After about 15 minutes of searching in the hot sun I was ready to give up - that's how nasty these guys are. Luckily we found it but it was a bit of a fluke!
In fact there was one cache that was so stupidly hard to find, and in such a public place (these guys are cruel) that the cops turned up on us! The car drives up and the cop goes "just wondering what you're doing".. and I go "ummm, have you heard of geocaching?". Fortunately he laughed and said "yep!" and drove off. Phew!
Anyway. So I'm going to upgrade my computer next week. Here's what I'm getting:
Power supply - Antec - BP500
Video card - ASUS - EN7600GT-2DHT-256
Motherboard - ASUS - P5N-E-SLI
CPU - Intel - BX80557E6420 (a quad would be nice... but the $$$!)
Memory - Mushkin - 996529
I'm hoping that it will be able to play Doom 3 ok. Failing that, Half life 2 would be good. Failing that, Deus Ex 2 would be good as well.
Oh and the picture? A particular cache ended us up in a small (tiny) town named Jung. Population 100!

Gig and new CDs - (Monday, March 26, 2007)
On Friday night I saw Weird Al Yankovich in concert, for the second time. And I would go as far as saying that it was better than the first! I am really busy at the moment so I'll type up a review tommorow. Oh yeah, I've also got some new CD's:
Guthrie Govan - "Erotic Cakes" (fantastic)
Victor Smolski - "The Majesty and the Passion" (wierd)
Victor Smolski - "The Heretic" (haven't listened to it yet)
Greg Howe - (self titled, I think)
Reviews to be posted soon. Sorry for such a brief post.Oh yeah, I have also designed a website for a friend who is a florist (actually, she did the flowers at our wedding). I'd post a link to it, but it's still got her email address on it and I don't want to subject her to the inevitable spam. Link tommorow :)
Hey, apparently I know the Bible 80%. That's rubbish.. I would say more like 20%.
Wow! You are truly a student of the Bible! Some of the questions were difficult, but they didn't slow you down! You know the books, the characters, the events . . . Very impressive!

Oh yeah, I also bought a playstation controller to USB connector off ebay. It works brilliantly.. even in MAME! And I didn't even have to install any drivers. I think that's bloody amazing.
Oh yeah, I also saw a truck advertising "Aim Kites XTREME (power kite technology)" (photo to be posted later) - heard of them Adrian?

But it's all power kiting stuff and nothing particularly interesting. The stuff I buy still comes from the England, France, or the US.

Wow! Those kites ARE xtreme! I'm off to get me one.
Guess what classic show is showing on ABC2 - (Thursday, March 22, 2007)
That's right! The classic Degrassi Junior High, complete with 80's hair and bad acting is back on, at 6:30pm! Yesterday we just found on that Spike's pregnant! Naughty naughty!

seeking police protection from your own - (Wednesday, March 21, 2007)
I think that this article reveals a lot;
Outspoken Muslim seeks police protection.
Read it for yourself. Is he even really "outspoken" though? Saying that "imams should be citizens or permanent residents and not have been members of suspicious groups".. yeah, that's outspoken... not.
Voice Of Apollo Gig! - (Wednesday, March 21, 2007)
On the 31st of March, Voice Of Apollo will be playing with HummerGun at the Barley Corn (177 Johnston St Collingwood). We're on at 9pm, and it's going to a MONSTEROUS ONSLAUGHT of double bass drum bits, lots of guitar solos, cool instrumental bits, enjoyable melodies and even more guitar solo's!
Please come on down and listen to us completely rock out. It will be so much fun you'll forget who you are!
